12:38:37 From Cora Kim : I just got assigned the regular testing in subco 12:40:22 From Maggie Howsden : Didn't Colorado have something on their ballot about reintroducing wolves somewhere last fall? 12:40:33 From Jackson Zipp : yes 12:40:45 From Maia Tucker (she/they) : They were Very Upset about it 12:41:02 From Peter Jonas : GREASY 12:41:12 From Sydney Tawfik : That death hurt ^^ 12:47:26 From Tristan Call : With regards to death I know a large amount, possibly the majority, of farm animals have life spans where they are old at around 10 and die shortly after that. Excluding other threats like coyotes or butchering for food at age 1 anyways. And on a farm there are a lot of animals, meaning a lot animal death. For the overall good of the ecosystem ideally, but not always. 12:54:23 From Tristan Call : I think there already is a rail line... At least some of the way 12:57:42 From Kevin Moody : i'm gonna pop some tags 12:57:55 From Maia Tucker (she/they) : do you have twenty dollars? 12:59:43 From Maia Tucker (she/they) : I mean a lot of people say like "what are these chemicals???" and its just the scientific names for like, salt 13:00:05 From Dillon Shipley : i’ll put any chemical in my body if BK tells me its ok 13:00:16 From Tristan Call : Probably have to approach the veggie burgers on a case by case nature. Some are definitely better than others, whether it's taste or health 13:00:30 From Megan Rice (she/her) : Good point dillon 13:04:06 From Maia Tucker (she/they) : i mean if you just have some blood, you can do like a cow blood draw instead of having to kill a whole cow 13:08:50 From Angela George (She/Her) : Is Trader Joe’s trying to replicate that local co-op or farmer’s market feel when really just being a regular chain grocery store or are they actually more sustainable? 13:09:20 From Maia Tucker (she/they) : ^^^^ 13:09:43 From Peter Jonas : huckleberries 13:10:18 From Sophia Whitworth : I’m not sure Angela, but I would be surprised if they are actually more sustainable- it would be an interesting thing to research! 13:13:03 From Paloma Whitworth (she/her) : One thing that really frustrates me about trader joe’s is all the packaging. Because they don’t sell anything by weight, many of their products are sold in styrafoam/plastic containers. In one of the episodes of their podcasts, they talk about how customers have complained about packaging and they try to reduce it. But last week, I noticed that the organic bell peppers are only sold in plastic packaging. I feel like maybe they want to reduce their packaging, but are also trying to mediate it with competitive pricing. 13:15:43 From Makenna Girard (She/Her) : RIP Mr. Greasy 13:15:47 From Makenna Girard (She/Her) : Ben was weeping 13:17:33 From Dillon Shipley : 500k pounds of food / year 13:17:37 From Dillon Shipley : was a figure they gave 13:17:51 From Tristan Call : Yep. 13:17:55 From Ben Ratcliff : one unconfirmed investigator into the doc found the plot of land costing 10.5 mill 13:17:56 From Tristan Call : By the end anyways 13:20:39 From Tristan Call : Yep, that's the rise of cash crops 13:21:02 From Tristan Call : Not grown for food, just cash 13:23:09 From Makenna Girard (She/Her) : I think a lot of us buy cheap food because we are paying for rent, insurance, and healthcare. Under our current economic system its unjust to ask people to spend money on food and sacrifice their ability to sustain a home and health 13:24:36 From Daniel Kar : We worked out almost every day 13:24:46 From Megan Rice (she/her) : HAHAHA GET HIM DANNY 13:25:32 From Daniel Kar : According to one of the italian professors, their fridges are smaller than our mini fridges 13:25:32 From Megan Rice (she/her) : Maybe you did :( 13:25:39 From Paloma Whitworth (she/her) : If you have a chance, there’s an episode of Hidden Brain called “Hungry Hungry Hippopotamus” It talks how food is treated in different cultures. It’s my favorite episode of any podcast of all time! 13:26:20 From Maia Tucker (she/they) : a lot more of our food is also way more processed than in Europe 13:28:04 From Tristan Call : Yeah the massive size is a marketing trick to make us go 'oh, I'll just get one' even if that one contains an entire days worth of calories/sugar/carbohydrates 13:31:50 From Fisher Ng : Human connection makes us rich in ways that money can’t :) 13:33:46 From Peter Jonas : Todd saved all of us 13:33:58 From Georgia Cosola : todd 💔
